T B QUARCOOPOME

Thomas Bonney
QUARCOOPOME

Also known as Teacher Ataa Npka, Uncle TB or Teacher
Uncle T B was the baby of the family. He was the last son of J S Quarcoopome with Martha Adaku Aryah. He was small in build but very energetic and a truly positive spirit. He was called Ataa Nkpa for his striking resemblance to his grandfather
He was a well-loved teacher and was indeed my teacher at the Accra New Town Experimental Primary School, where a lot of prominent people in Ghanaian society feel proud to have been taught by him. He was firm but very fair and a great teacher.
I remember him for his brisk walk and smart school uniform. He was a proud instructor of the Young Pioneer Movement in its day and earned a trip to Russia with them. I did not think he was a particularly political person.
He had many children under his wing and was well respected by all. He was the Family Head of the Quarcoopomes of Labour House for a few years until his passing. Prior to that, he was the sole survivor of the children of John Sackey Quarcoopome.

Tribute

Thomas Boney Quarcoopome was the last son of John Sackey Quarcoopome with Martha Adaku Aryah. His older brothers were Abed Nii Quarcoopome and John Adjiri Quarcoopome. He also had four sisters and another brother from his mother’s side. His striking resemblance to our great grandfather, John Nii Okutu Quarcoopome, earned him his nickname, Ataa Nkpa.
He trained as a teacher at the Winneba Training College and rst taught at the Accra New Town Experimental Primary school, where he excelled as a very competent, committed and popular teacher for a number of years. His many pupils, of which I am one, held him in very high esteem.
After leaving Experimental, he taught at Parent’s Association, Roman Ridge, Burma Camp Garrison, before joining the Ministry of Education as Personnel Registrar prior to his retirement.
He played a leading role in the Young Pioneer Movement and earned a trip to US as a result.
T B was married to Mry Akuorkor Kwansuma Akorful, a Fante. They have ve surviving children, Vida Nteshie, Justice Sackey, Prospero Aah, Jocelyn Naajar and Agnes Ama Kuma and thirteen grandchildren. There were three other children of dierent mothers. He had a partner, Auntie Esther but there were no children in this relationship.
Uncle T B was the Head of the Labour House Quarcoopome Family prior to his passing in 2016.
