R O QUARCOOPOME

Roger Odartei
QUARCOOPOME

Also known as Papa Roger
Papa Rodger was of very fair complexion and freckled and was known as the Blofonyo (Whiteman) of the family. Sister Ida reminds me of him because of the resemblance.
He was a Dispenser who worked in Bekwai and was known to have ably manned the Bekwai Hospital in the Mining sector for years until a Doctor was appointed.
I remember him with a pirates patch over his right eye.
He was close to Ataa Aah who still talks very excitedly about the good times they had together. My mother always remembered him with great affection.
Sadly, Papa Rodger died when we were young so we hardly got to know him.

Tribute

Rodger Odartei Quarcoopome was affectionately known as PaaRo. He is a direct brother to E O S Quarcoopome and Mary Odarkor Turkson to the same mother. Sadly he passed on early aged only 50, on 8th November 1957. He married two wives, Mercy Adukwei Ankrah and Mano Anowa. He only had children with Adukwei Ankrah from the Okanta We of Mantse Ankrah family of Otublohum.
The children were Reverend Canon Percy Lante Quarcoopome, Maude Lamiley, Peace Lamiorkor, Ida Naajar, Naomi Nteshie, Ernestina Sakua, Jonathan Nii Sackey and Mawuli Priscilla Korkoi (Nanaa) Quarcoopome.
Papa Rodger worked as a pharmacist (Dispenser) throughout his adult life. He served with the Ministry of Health in Accra for many years, then as chief government pharmacist in Ashanti Bekwai Government hospital. He was a strong Oddfellows Lodge member.
He built his own residence and clinic combined in Asylum Down, Accra. Unfortunately he passed on too early to complete his dream, though the house was completed. He left behind a legacy of clothes and pictures demonstrated his love for ne western-style suits and shoes; well collaborated by oral dictates by his wife Adukwei and eldest children.
