Our Great Grandfather, THE FIRST KNOWN ANCESTOR of the QUARCOOPOME FAMILY is John Nii Okutu EKUJO. He was born in 1824 and passed away in 1916. Nii Okutu is reported to have come from the Yoruba tribe of Nigeria where his ancestory is traced to the Olan Oyo tribe, who worshipped Shango. According to oral history he was to be a king of the community to which he belonged. However, in deance against the customs, traditions and other things he had to go through, he was threatened with death. He initially migrated to Benin City where he married his rst wife and had two children, Atta Kyei and Kyeikua, before migrating to Accra. He settled in Accra among the Ngleshie people of the Gas. He was a Batta drummer who befriended a Ga and married among the Gas.. It is said that he brought with him a replica of the shrine of Shango from Nigeria. This still resides in the Atukpai family house today.
