Agnes Tawiah
QUARCOOPOME
Also known as Aafio Tawiah
Aao Tawiah was a sister of Uncle GO (PapaNpka), Uncle Albert and DodooNye by the same mother.
She was a strong and assertive woman who walked with great condence and commanded our respect.
She was a hardworking and obviously proud Market Trader who went to Makola everyday.
She was very rm but fair and caring. She always made me feel particularly special as she fondly called me M’Papa Nii obviously in memory of her departed father, Nii Sackey. I always made a beeline to her because she generously gave me money whenever I went to say my goodbyes before leaving for boarding school. She was special. She rmly told me o once for being a bit forward in a family meeting with our elders.
As children, we were always wary of her as she was usually the rst to report our misdeeds to our parents when they returned from work. We aectionately called her ‘Radio Ghana’ for her reporting skills but never to her face.
We had no doubt that she loved us and only wanted the best for us.
